Leftovers is a series exploring time and waste. Americans are known for producing tons-upon-tons of waste from packaging, products, and what is especially interesting: food. Not only is it a financial waste to throw away leftover food or old produce, but it is a waste of product when those resources could have gone to someone who needed it (or even to compost!) There is increasing concern over where to put our garbage, as space is eventually going to run out. But, as human beings, we need to do better for each other and for our Earth.

PROCESS.

I was raised with the saying, "You're lucky to have food to eat so you need to finish your meal; there are starving kids out there." It is something that I have taken to heart, even now. I produce lumen (sun) prints from items that have gone bad or that I would have soon thrown away, most of my subject matter being food. By exposing the prints outdoors long-term, I have allowed the “elements” to aid in decomposing the food product while allowing nature to leave its mark on the compositions. There is always beauty to be found in decay.
